But Delta is adjusting to living with his situation. York has bren... enlightening.

He winces. 'Probably,' he agrees. 'Though if you got them from the same place you got me... they'd be more likely to understand.'

“Why should they?” Delta counters. Those injured people deserved ones who would care more for them than others had. Perhaps in the future he should look to their number.

'Because they will have all seen the more ugly side of Falconry.' A dull, phantom pain throbs in his eye. 'They'd probably be as surprised a Falconer would hate the system as I was, but they would understand.'

Perhaps he should look into acquiring more men and women like that. Protection of them, giving them hope and a new sort of home.  “York... the people you knew there. Would they accept someone like me?”

He shifts a little awkwardly. '"Knew" is a strong word. We... didn't get to socialise much, even seeing each other was rare. But going off what little I gathered, some of them probably would. Others wouldn't.'

“Would they answer questions if posed to them?” Delta asks. He’s clearly do it quietly.

'Yes,' he says slowly. 'But they'd get in trouble if they didn't, and you might not get complete honesty.'

“I know,” Delta says. “I’ll have you to help me figure that out. I trust you to.” Makes sense to him, right? If he is going to trust York with his life, he would trust him with that.

'Well... I can try, but I really don't know these guys. The ones that haven't given up would probably say anything to try and get out.' And whether they'd stay or try to run from there, he just doesn't know.

“Oh,” Delta says, wilting a little. He thought he had a plan. Oh well.

'Hey, that doesn't mean you should completely give up on the idea. Just might need some more thought and planning.'

More thoughts and planning. Yes, Delta will think about it, won't he? He'll figure this out. He wants to change this whole mess of stuff. He wants to make it better for Hawks. Which includes those ones who were broken.

"You're right. I won't give up. I'll have to think about how to handle it."

And that there is why York didn't run the first chance he had. Delta is actually willing to follow through with this. That he chose York to be his Hawk at all is proof that his actions match his words and York is willing to be at his side to help him turn more words into actions.

'I'll be happy to help.'

Delta doesn't get to finish the thought because there is knocking at the door, along with a ping from Phi to tell York she has arrived.

'Definitely be safer that way,' he agrees, heading over to the door. 'Don't worry, it's Phi.'

He still opens the door a crack to check before opening it wider to let her in.

Phi waves a little, a small squiggle of her fingers. But she doesn't enter. Shakes her head and holds out a small metal case.

Weapon and some clips. Saw Xi following me, close up okay?

York looks out subtley but catches no sight of the other Hawk. He has no doubt that they're there though and he nods as he accepts the case.

Thank you. Anything in particular we should watch out for? He's going to need to get more info on Alpha's Hawks.

The guy isn't very subtle. Bright orange armor. Just keep an eye out and you'll be fine. Mostly he's just an observation sort of Merlin, keeping tabs on you two.

My place is at her side, Phi confirms. She believes that more than anyone else. More than anything else she wants to be with the woman she loves.

He nods. Get back to her safe then. He gives the hall another scan, then shuts the door and carefully locks it again.

Phi salutes before he closes and locks it, humming to herself as she goes.

"Well?" Delta asks, standing far back from the door and out of the line of it.

He heads back over to Delta and opens the case to inspect its contents.

'Weapons acquired, though apparently Xi was watching her on her way over.'

"I don't like him. He stands there and watches. Not as bad as Rho, but..." Rho is pretty intense. Delta stands back and frowns at the case. Weapons aren't really his thing.
