"Personal for us both," he agrees, smiling a little under his helmet. "And I'd less say I've had my lot thrown in and more I'm with you on the path."

He does indeed remember the way and leads them back, keeping a trained eye out for trouble.

No trouble for now. The mansion is almost eerily quiet. No doubt his father had locked himself in his rooms, and Delta wants to scoff at that.

"What's the point to all this space, when we all go back to our own corners at the end of the night?" he mumbles as they approach his room.

"Show. Capability." It did often seem to be that those who had the most amount of space had very little use for it. This was a very lonely house.

They reached the door and York kept an eye out while Delta opened it. He'd be glad to get back into the relative safety of Delta's wing.

Perhaps not half so glad as Delta is. The man seems to truly loosen up back in his own space.

“I still need to work on your designs. But I feel like I could use a break after all of that. Fuck, never thought to feel unsafe in my own home.”

York can see the tension drop from Delta's shoulders as the door closes behind them and behind his helmet, his jaw clenches. He really shouldn't feel unsafe in his own home.

"Soon your home will be a place you feel safe."

Oh yes. Surely he will. Delta has a brief  and bitter chuckle. Once he had thought he was safe. He’d been a child. How long ago that had been. 

“Promise what you will. I can’t be sure.”

"I can't promise your safety," he says after a moment. "But I can promise to do my best to make you as safe as I can."

“And that is something,” Delta agrees with a soft sigh. What more could he want? There was nothing he could be sure of, after all. 

“I really do appreciate you, York. Thank you for being so defiant when we met.”

He lets out a small laugh of dry amusement at that. "You're welcome I guess. It was pretty much all I had left going for me."

“I wish I was as good at it as you are,” he says, frowning as he moves about the room, tidying out of anxiety.

"...It comes with consequences. I got good because I stopped caring about them."

[protective_logic]

“Oh, I disagree. You care about consequences,” Delta shrugs off as he moves to sorting things out on a table. “If you did not, you might have lectured me far more on breaking into that side room yesterday.”

He hesitates for a moment. "...I didn't care about consequences to myself."

[protective_logic]

Now that seems unfair. “What if I want you to give some consideration to that? I know you are supposed to protect me, at cost to yourself even. But I’m already growing fond of you. I would hate to lose my friend.”

"I care now," he reassures him quickly. "...I've got reason to care now. But back there and then I... well I didn't."

[protective_logic]

Oh. Well, Delta doesn't seem to take that information well. Perhaps he should. But he doesn't. He looks away and instead focuses on some piece of paper on the table.

"You are welcome to use my shower if you require the use of one. I think I shall try and call up some of my plans for your armor on my tablet and start working on them further."

York looks down and away, catching the expression on Delta's face as he turns. A few days in and he's already doing so much better than he was. ...But maybe he shouldn't have admitted such things to Delta so soon.

"Right, yeah. ...Thank you." A shower would be nice.

Yes, it would have been better not to tell Delta for a while, because immediately the man has shut back down. Even if it was logical for York to behave in such a manner. 

“There are towels in the linen closet in there. You may shut the door for privacy.”

"Thank you."

Dammit. York sighs to himself as he heads for the shower. Too open too quickly. He should have known better. Hopefully this won't have too much of an adverse affect, he doesn't want to spoil what has been growing with Delta.

Of course he feels like it has an adverse affect, Delta hurts to think of this. He didn't want a tool, after all. And the ache of reminding what York was of course hurt. He took a nearby datapad, called up the designs, and moved to flop himself down in a comfortable chair. How was he supposed to focus when his heart hurt so much. His family was wealthy by using men like this, by killing them inside.

He hates this world.

The shower is hot and high pressure and wonderful. It seems to finally wash off the grime of the mews, both externally and a portion of that which clings to his mind. This is a new start. He can work to try and build up again after the mess of Church and the mews. A mess he shouldn't have reminded Delta of.

With a sigh, he rests his forehead against the tiles and resists the urge to hit them, either with his fist or his head. He can fix this, he can't wreck a good thing so soon.

Yes, breaking Delta's tile work while his home is being built to spec elsewhere would be RUDE. Don't do that. At least, after a few minutes, Delta can fall fully into the work, forgetting a bit about the slight.

Habit has him turn the shower off after ten minutes, he was in need of a long one. He dries quickly and re-armors himself, familiar moves and patterns which are strangely soothing. Soon, he's suited up again and makes his way back out into the main area to find Delta.

Delta is still there, waiting. Well, no, not waiting. Just working on schematics. Doesn't even look up when York approaches. He's at least gotten THAT comfortable with York.

A fact the Hawk notices. Closing the bathroom door behind him again, he steps closer, but makes sure to not crowd the man.

"Schematics for the house? Or armor?"
