“Oh, I disagree. You care about consequences,” Delta shrugs off as he moves to sorting things out on a table. “If you did not, you might have lectured me far more on breaking into that side room yesterday.”
Now that seems unfair. “What if I want you to give some consideration to that? I know you are supposed to protect me, at cost to yourself even. But I’m already growing fond of you. I would hate to lose my friend.”
Oh. Well, Delta doesn't seem to take that information well. Perhaps he should. But he doesn't. He looks away and instead focuses on some piece of paper on the table.
"You are welcome to use my shower if you require the use of one. I think I shall try and call up some of my plans for your armor on my tablet and start working on them further."
York looks down and away, catching the expression on Delta's face as he turns. A few days in and he's already doing so much better than he was. ...But maybe he shouldn't have admitted such things to Delta so soon.
"Right, yeah. ...Thank you." A shower would be nice.
Yes, it would have been better not to tell Delta for a while, because immediately the man has shut back down. Even if it was logical for York to behave in such a manner.
“There are towels in the linen closet in there. You may shut the door for privacy.”
Dammit. York sighs to himself as he heads for the shower. Too open too quickly. He should have known better. Hopefully this won't have too much of an adverse affect, he doesn't want to spoil what has been growing with Delta.
Of course he feels like it has an adverse affect, Delta hurts to think of this. He didn't want a tool, after all. And the ache of reminding what York was of course hurt. He took a nearby datapad, called up the designs, and moved to flop himself down in a comfortable chair. How was he supposed to focus when his heart hurt so much. His family was wealthy by using men like this, by killing them inside.
The shower is hot and high pressure and wonderful. It seems to finally wash off the grime of the mews, both externally and a portion of that which clings to his mind. This is a new start. He can work to try and build up again after the mess of Church and the mews. A mess he shouldn't have reminded Delta of.
With a sigh, he rests his forehead against the tiles and resists the urge to hit them, either with his fist or his head. He can fix this, he can't wreck a good thing so soon.
Yes, breaking Delta's tile work while his home is being built to spec elsewhere would be RUDE. Don't do that. At least, after a few minutes, Delta can fall fully into the work, forgetting a bit about the slight.
Habit has him turn the shower off after ten minutes, he was in need of a long one. He dries quickly and re-armors himself, familiar moves and patterns which are strangely soothing. Soon, he's suited up again and makes his way back out into the main area to find Delta.
Delta is still there, waiting. Well, no, not waiting. Just working on schematics. Doesn't even look up when York approaches. He's at least gotten THAT comfortable with York.
"Your armor," Delta answers, not even looking up. "If you are to defend me in the professional manner to which you intend, then you shall require it, shall you not?"
"It's not... Delta, we had a whole conversation about this. I... I slipped up, okay? And I'm sorry, I'll do my best not to do it again. I don't want you to be like that. I like you because you're not."
The conversation doesn't matter in some ways. But Delta has to sigh. He's trying.
"I'm... torn over all of this, York. In ways I cannot explain. I do not understand the will you have to serve. It makes no sense. I do not like the work my family does. I am not comfortable with the way that the women who would be my godmother instead chose to serve my mother with her life. I don't understand any of this and I definitely don't like it."
He sighs, the sound heavy with the weight of several years in the system. "It's... hard to explain, and honestly I don't fully understand and am torn over it myself. From what I've heard of your mother and Phi, it was possibly the only way they could remain close once your father married her. For me... I believe in what you want to do, what you want to create. Think of it less as me serving you and more... helping you get there. And bear in mind "there" is radically changing the system or outright bringing it down."
"It could, but my point still stands that you want to change the system. And I'm down for that. So why would I want you to be my all-overbearing Master when neither of us are interested in that?"
He sighs, but it's not unkind. "I remember. Look... I'm sorry for the way I acted. I really don't want you to be like most other Masters are. I don't think either of us would be happy that way. You just be you."
