He is the world's foremost expert on gamma radiation, at least in that universe. His work in the field of nuclear physics is unparalled.

And yes, sometimes he gets angry and breaks things. But you should see what Steve Rogers does when he's angry.

Magic is just science they don't understand. It's a fictional universe. So there are ways around the laws of thermodynamics.

Yeah, but the rule in this particular universe is that "magic" is done through what Thor's race, the Asgardians, left behind when they left Earth. So is Thor, who is not exactly an intellectual giant, still more experienced with magic than humans who don't understand the underlying principles but have been studying the devices for generations?
